For a short week it sure was busy! I hope you’re all enjoying the snow, but I am looking forward to spring.

On Tuesday we saw the second graders perform their Patriotic Concert in honor of President’s day Monday. We also visited the library. It was a lot of fun opening our Valentines Tuesday afternoon!

On Wednesday we met the new hedgehog and Ms. P from the Science Center. It was a lot of fun to meet the hedgehog and learn new information about them.

On Thursday we talked about President’s day and learned why we celebrate President’s day in February. Students were able to make a mask of either Abraham Lincoln or George Washington. We wrote in our journals what we would do if we were President. In the afternoon our 4th grade buddies came down and students shared what they would do if they were president and wrote their ideas down. They are proudly displayed in our hallway.

Today we had a fun Friday! We joined the other grades in the auditorium to watch the movie Brother Bear as a reward for our school wide incentive program. In the afternoon students from room 113 and 114 switched rooms. Students made a crown for our 100th day in room 114 and created different artwork in 113. It was a fun afternoon right before vacation!

Francis Wyman 16th Annual Family Carnival

President's Day writing with our buddies!

On Thursday our 4th grade buddies came down and we brainstormed what we would do if we were the President in honor of President's Day Monday!

Hedgehog Show!

On Wednesday Ms. P from the Burlington Science Center came into our classroom to show us the new hedgehog. We learned new information about the hedgehog and even got to touch him! 

The hedgehog felt like the top of a hairbrush. 

We practiced rolling in a ball and making noises just like a hedgehog does to warn predators to stay away.  

Valentine's Day!

We had a very busy Valentine's Day here at school! In the morning we got to watch the second graders perform their Patriotic Concert in honor of President's Day next Monday.

Then we made cards for our families and in the afternoon opened up our Valentines! A lot of fun was had by all. 

Indoor Recess Fun!

It was fun to watch the snow fall today while we played inside during recess time. Thank you so much to the Andrews family for providing our class with play-dough!

February 3, 2017

This week we practiced with Mrs. Christiansen outside with our life skills program. We practiced taking turns, what to do if a student isn’t playing with anyone, how to share different equipment and what to do if both friends want to play a game and cannot agree. We will continue working on these life skills throughout the rest of the year in our classroom.

We had a great trip to the aquarium on Tuesday. Thank you so much to Ms. Bagni and Mrs. Conaway for joining us. We got some awesome pictures!

On Thursday we had a guest teacher into our classroom to work on writing. Ms. Sacco taught us how to do a procedural poster to teach someone how to do something. It was interesting to see the students come up with different ideas of things they are good at to teach other people. They are continuing to work really hard on their writing. I have been really impressed!

We finished our unit on subtraction this week. Next week I will send home the subtraction fluency facts students are expected to know by the end of the year. These can be cut into flashcards to practice. They do not need to return to school. Please do not have your students write the answers on the cards. You can practice both those and the addition facts at home. I will be checking the students on their facts soon. Please keep counting with your students and having them practice writing the numbers.

The sight word practice cards went home this week. You can make these cards into flashcards as well to practice these words. The words should be practiced everyday for at least 10 days before the punch card is returned to school. I will be checking students on their sight words and send new words home to practice.

If you still have the light blue folder at home that your student's report card was in please return it to school. The report card is yours to keep.

From the PTO: It's time to start sending in those Box Tops again! The PTO is holding a classroom contest, the classroom that sends in the most Box Tops will win a prize! Please make sure to send in your Box Tops in a Ziploc bag labeled with student's first name, last name, and homeroom number. Box Tops must be sent in by February 15th to be counted for the contest.
