I can't believe we are almost done with October! Time has been flying! 

We have been nice and busy in Kindergarten. We are finishing up our unit on animals and mammals and soon will start learning about different American symbols and Thanksgiving and families. 

This week the students have completed different animal art projects and decorated their painted teddy bears in different Halloween costumes! They came out awesome! 

We have been busy writing in our journals and learning poems. We are working on different rhyming activities. At home you can work on rhyming too by asking your child different words that rhyme.  

We started a new topic in Math this week. We are comparing numbers to 5 and working with greater then, less then and equal to. I have been sending home the number formation sheets as homework to practice and reinforce what we have been doing in school. Please send those back the next day!

Today we had bus safety with Officer Schippeletti. He talked to us about being safe on the bus and at the bus stop. We also practiced jumping out of the back of the bus!

There are a bunch of class books in circulation. They are Who is This? Who is This: Parents? 10 Apples Up On Top and Room 113 likes Reading. If you notice one of these at your house, please send it back to school so another student may take it home and share it with his or her family! 

Please practice at home with your child putting on their jackets, hats, mitten, etc. As the weather gets cooler we will still go outside for recess. You can imagine how tough it is to get all the kids ready for recess!

We had another busy great week in Kindergarten!

Students worked on different poems, letter books, and their individual innovation called Mom and I Went to the Zoo. We read different stories and shared our Brown Bear books with the class.

We made monkey and crocodile puppets that we used while singing our song Mommy's Taking Us to the Zoo Tomorrow. 

On Wednesday we had our first fire drill. Students did an excellent job of lining up quietly and following directions outside of the building. We talked about why it's important to practice and even to practice at home!

Mrs. Christiansen, our guidance counselor, came in on Wednesday to talk about being whole body listeners while sitting on the rug. We will certainly practice this!

We had a wonderful trip to the zoo on Thursday! The weather was beautiful and we even got to see the giraffes! They were a real highlight! Thank you to Mrs. Andrews, Ms. Bagni, and Ms. Sorenson for joining us!

Some of our fall artwork!

We have finished our apple projects and started our unit on mammals and other zoo animals in preparation for our field trip to the zoo! We are looking forward to a great day on Thursday!

As always, we have been working very hard.  The children completed two class books this week, Apples Up on Top and Room 113 Likes Reading.  The books are now circulating to your homes along with two others.  Make sure to have your child read the book with you before you return them the next day. Please try to return them the next day so someone else can bring them home to share!

The children will be taking their September journals home.  They wrote their words in their best guess spelling.  We help them by saying the words with them and accept the letters they hear.  You will be able to see tremendous growth as the year progresses. It's always fun to save them throughout the year to see the changes!

 They also are bringing home their Brown Bear, Brown Bear books.  They read them to the class and should be very proud of their work!  These books can stay at home for them to practice reading!

We have been working hard in math working with the numbers 0-5. I will be sending home homework next week to reinforce the formation of the numbers. Please practice with your child with pencil and send back the next day!

PS...Don’t forget to have your child practice putting on his/her jacket/sweatshirt.  As it gets cooler we will still go outside. Please dress your child for the weather.  It is greatly appreciated! Thanks! :)

Friendship quilt

Today we put together our friendship quilt we made with our fourth grade buddies! It is in the hall for all to see!
