March 24

The artwork the students are turning out has been amazing! We started learning about the Ancient Egyptian culture this week. We learned that they made the pharaohs into mummies and put them in the great pyramids. Ask your student what animal was very important to the Egyptians and what they made into mummies as well! I cannot wait to display all of their hard work at our Kindergarten Museum on April 11th. All are invited to attend!

Artists hard at work this week.

We have continued to share our All I Am books. I am so impressed with the students' writing. We also did an opinion piece this week. We talked about what it means to have an opinion on something and looked at some mentor texts of other students’ writings. Students picked whether they liked the slide or swings  better at recess. We will continue to work on opinion writing next week.

Learning new poems.

We started a new unit in math this week. We are still working with teen numbers, but have been focusing on the group of 10 and the left overs. Students have been doing a great job with this. I would encourage you to keep practicing counting at home, the math fluency facts, and even writing the numbers as high as students can go.

We have been working with our Kindergarten sight words quite a bit. Keep on practicing them at home! I sent home a few flash cards this week with a practice log. This is completely optional but it is something you can do with your student if you would like. I assessed students on their words this week and they are doing great. Keep up the good work.

Building at the different library stations.

Mrs. Ardizonni, our technology teacher, and Ms. Carney our librarian came into our class to do a snowman glyph project on the iPads. Students created a snowman and decorated him or her depending on different criteria. It was fun to see how they turned out!

St. Patrick's Day

Image result for st patrick's day

After lunch today we returned to our classroom to find it had been visited by a leprechaun! He turned over chairs, threw book all over the rug, pulled out calendar pieces, and even dumped our animals out!

We found his little footprints everywhere- and he even turned the water in the toilet green!

He left us a note to try and find him- the search was on.

He sent us to the cafeteria.....

 To the library....

To the nurse's office.....

To the main office....

Then back to our classroom where we found another note telling us to go upstairs to room 204! We went to investigate and found our 4th grade buddies room!!

We found a note outside the door and leprechaun tracks in Mr. Stead's room.

He even walked across Mr. Stead's message!

Since we were there, we figured we would read a story called Looking for Leprechauns

After Mr. Stead read us the story, we worked with our partners to decide what we would do if we were leprechauns! A lot of friends said they would give me some gold!!

We had a lot of fun today at school to celebrate St. Patrick's Day!

Here we are as leprechauns
